According to the Korean publication The Alec, Samsung executives from the mobile division held talks with suppliers last month to discuss the smartphone market. One of the topics of discussion was Apple’s rumored foldable device, for which Samsung representatives said they expected Apple to launch its foldable device in two years. Samsung officials also said that the device Apple is reportedly working on is not a phone but a tablet. It could even be a laptop as foldable laptops are a thing now.
Confirming the report, industry analyst firm CCI Insights (via 9to5Google) said last month that it is not possible to launch a foldable iPhone at this time and it could be risky for Apple to release a foldable tablet or laptop, however. Would make more sense to do so. An iPad, for example, would be better suited for a foldable device to be part of the experiment. While it’s unclear how much the foldable Apple device will cost, analysts believe it could cost around $2,500 when it hits the market.
Samsung executives also said in the meeting that the market for foldable devices is expected to grow by 80 percent by 2025. The South Korean company also said that 90 percent of foldable device users are willing to upgrade to another foldable device in the future. It paints a bright picture for a foldable phone that, despite being present for over three years, is still nowhere near mainstream. One reason for this could be the high price. For example, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 price in India is Rs 1,84,999. Considering the premium branding of Apple’s foldable device, it is expected to be priced higher.
